The state of Illinois appear to have an axe to grind for families who were once on public assistance.
Per the article the state of Illinois Human Services have no statute of limitations on collecting over payments.
Most of the overpayments are a couple of hundred dollars that will damage your credit by placing it in collection.
They have the person social security number, which they can do a soft pull on their credit to locate their current address, to send them a notice of a 30 year old debt, allowing the person to pay the debt.
Most of the people they are doing this to have left the welfare system and are productive citizens in society.
The state of Illinois also have the options to garnish a person wages or tax refunds.
Why wait so long to collect on a petty debt? Pure evil.
They would rather send it to a collection company and cause a collection on your credit report for 7 years. This is wicked on all levels.
